Power Shift Hours

1

Peak

7am - 11am and 5pm - 9pm

During these hours, electricity rates are higher due to increased demand. It's best to minimise the usage of high-energy appliances during these times.

2

Off-Peak

11am - 5pm and 9pm - 11pm

During these hours, electricity rates are lower than peak hours. This is a good time to run appliances like washing machines, dishwashers and vacuum cleaners.

3

Night

11pm - 7am

This is the most affordable time to use electricity. A good time to charge EV’s or anything with a battery.

Half Price Weekends

Half Price Weekends

All electricity used between midnight Friday and midnight Sunday is half price. The more power you shift into the weekends, the more money you could save.
Save your baking, laundry, or DIY projects for the weekend, and enjoy the sweet satisfaction of saving.

Making the most of the Power Shift Plan is about shifting as much of your power use from peak to off-peak times, night and the weekends as possible.

Tip #1

Adjust your habits

Make small changes to your daily routine, such as cooking larger meals at once or using a slow cooker, to reduce peak hour energy consumption.

Tip #2

Shift energy-intensive tasks

Run major appliances like washing machines, dryers and dishwashers during off-peak times. Schedule tasks such as the laundry, vacuuming the house, washing dishes and cooking during off-peak hours when rates are lower.

Charge devices and batteries overnight. Plug in phones, laptops, and other devices overnight to take advantage of the lowest rates. This is a good time to charge EV's or large equipment with batteries.

Tip #3

Educate your household

Ensure everyone in your home is aware of the Power Shift plan and the different hours and make sure they understand how to adjust their usage to align with off-peak hours.

Track your usage via My Account to regularly review your energy usage patterns to see how well you align with off-peak hours.

Tip #4

Plan for unexpected changes

Prepare for high usage: If you anticipate higher energy use during peak hours (e.g., hosting a large event), plan accordingly by managing other areas of energy use.

Tip #5

Use programmable and smart devices

Smart plugs: Use these to control when appliances turn on and off, ensuring they run during cheaper periods.

Programmable thermostats: Set them to operate heating and cooling systems during off-peak times.
